Cardinal Cradle – signed Artist’s Proof VIII
Another iconic cardinal print from Charley Harper. Nothing is quite as identifiable with Charley Harper as his Cardinals! This one portrays another theme and hallmark of Charley’s work – the celebration of motherhood. Who could be more attentive than a mother cardinal caring for her young?
“And now for the good news: the cardinal is not endangered. It is, in fact, steadily expanding its range, and it couldn’t happen to a nicer bird. Robed and capped like a prince of the church, whence cometh his name, the male is a prince of the perch. A faithful and attentive husband, he is protector, provider and pal to his brood—is this bird for real? Wait, there’s more! All year, he sings on cue, cue, cue, calling his bride purty, purty, purty, spreading cheer, cheer, cheer.”
This special print is a signed Artist’s Proof (numbered VIII). As such it is one of a few copies reserved by the Artist. The presentation of this print is especially nice: dual offset mats with color coordinated frame. Dustcover to verso. Overall excellent condition and ready to hang on the wall. A beautiful copy for the discerning collector.
